Lesja Ukrainka came to San Remo for the first time from Kyiv (by Lviv – Vienna – Venice) November 23 (December 6) 1901.

Her state of health at this time required to avoid stress, so she wrote mostly letters to relatives and friends. However, on February 10 (23), 1902, she wrote the poem "You would like flowers on my way…", April 1 (14), 1902 – a short story "Blind".

At this time (probably in the spring of 1902) it was done photo by Lesja Ukrainka on the background of the sea.

On May 7 (20), 1902, Lesja Ukrainka left San Remo by steamer for Genoa and further through Odessa to Kyiv.

Lesja Ukrainka came to San Remo for the second time on October 19 (November 1), 1902. On May 2 (15), 1903, she left San Remo and via Zurich, Munich, and Vienna arrived Prague on May 16 (29).

At this time she wrote poetries «With sharp lustre waves flare…», «Prisoner», «At Semmering», «Smoke», «The stars shine so brightly above…", a dramatic poem «In captivity», note on the article "Politics and Ethics", worked on a dramatic poem "Cassandra", translated poems by Maria Konopnitskaya, «A tale about King Semyon» by F. Volkhovsky.
