House number 26 built in classical style by the architect M. Fechter in 1880. Shevchenko Society, founded in 1873 and reorganized in Shevchenko Scientific Society (NTSh) in 1892, accommodated in this building since 1898. First, all institutions of society, including government (department), library, museum, publishers, printing office and book warehouse, reside in the house.
Lesja Ukrainka the last time visit Lviv in 1903, and all her visits to NTSh occurred in house number 26, not number 24. Placing the memorial plaque at house number 26 will be more corresponded to historical realities. (This applies to the memorial plaque in memory of cooperation B.D.Grinchenko with NTSh. Grinchenko died in 1910, and the proper place for this plaque would be on house number 26, not on the side facade of the building number 24 on the Lysenko street, where it is now). This does not detract from the historic memorial value of both houses, but the accuracy in any case no harm.
Please be aware that street which now bears the name of Volodymyr Vynnychenko, under the Soviets called the "Soviet", and in Poland and Austria-Hungary called the Charnecky street. So Lesja Ukrainka actually happened on the Charnecky street.
