May 29, 1898 Lesja Ukrainka left Yalta to Odessa, where she arrived on May 30. In Odessa, she stopped at her friend Margarita Komarova-Sidorenko, who lived on the Kuznechna str., 28. On June 5, her sister Olga came to Lesja, and on June 10, they left via Kremenchuk and Poltava to Gadjach, where they arrived on June 18, 1898.

On the way, they stopped in Yelisavetgrad for 2 – 3 days (now Kropyvnytskyi). Here they were met by Mykola Levitsky (1859 – 1936) – a figure of the Ukrainian cooperative movement. He showed the sisters a farm artel organized by him in the village . Here you can see near Kropyvnytskyi, which is probably close to what it was at the end of the 19th century.
