After the visit to Petersburg on February 20 – March 1, 1900, Lesja Ukrainka visited the family of her brother Mykhailo, who at that time worked at the Dorpat (Tartu) University and rented an apartment in a house at 5 Peplerska Street. She visited the university library, and on February 26 was present at the holiday Academy in honor of Taras Shevchenko, organized by the Ukrainian student community.

On March 1, 1900, Lesja Ukrainka left for Riga, where she visited her aunt Olena Antonivna Teslenko-Prykhodko on March 1-4. Then, on March 5-9, 1900, she was in Minsk, saw S. Merzhinsky, and on March 10 returned to Kyiv.

The house shown in the photo stands on the corner of Öpetaja tänav (left) and Pepleri tänav (right). The style of constructivism indicates the probable date of construction – 1920 – 30’s. We do not know when the old house where Mykhailo Kosach lived was destroyed.
