Burkut (1901)

Lesja Ukrainka, accompanied by K. V. Kvitka, left Chernivtsi June 30 (July 13), 1901. From June 30 (July 13) to July 8 (21) they were in Vyzhnytsia, then came to Yavoriv via Kuty and Kosiv. On July 9 (22), they went on through Yaseniv to Kryvorivnja, where they met Ivan Franko and Volodymyr Hnatyuk. On July 10 (23) they went on to Zhabje (now Verkhovyna) and on July 11 (24) they arrived in Burkut.
July 19 – 23 (August 1 – 5) 1901 they were visited by Ivan Franko, from whom Lesja Ukrainka recorded several folk songs.
Here Lesja Ukrainka wrote poetries «Why can’t I fly up…», «Meeting», «The dream is distant, the dream is past», «Want to know what it really was…», «Oh, how hard it is to walk that way…», «Oh, it seems – I’m not worried…», «Oh, I’ll go to the dark copse…»
On August 17 (30), 1901, Lesja Ukrainka and K. V. Kvitka left Burkut for Hryniava, where they stayed for the night. On August 18 (31) they arrived in the village Dovgopole and stayed with the priest I. Popel. On August 28 (September 10) they arrived in Vyzhnytsia, and on August 31 (September 13) Lesja Ukrainka arrived in Chernivtsi.
